Refined Sugar-Free Molasses + 6 DIY pantry hacks

Refined Sugar Free Molasses | In Jennie's Kitchen

Right about now you might be scouring through the pantry, swearing you bought brown sugar. Or maybe it’s the baking powder you can’t find? On a refined sugar-free kick, wondering what you can use in place of molasses?

That’s exactly why I’m sharing my hack for DIY Refined Sugar Free Molasses, along with a few other tips of DIY hacks to make your life easier (and hopefully save you a last minute trip to the supermarket). The two I use most often are the one I’m sharing here today, and DIY Brown Sugar. In fact, I rarely, if ever, buy brown sugar anymore.

Admittedly, the Homemade Baking Powder is a bit more esoteric. I mean, if you don’t have baking powder, a basic baking pantry staple, the chances of having the ingredients to make it might be even more slim. Still, you never know, and this tip might be your wingman in the eleventh hour.

These next two tips aren’y exactly suited for an instant fix, but if you’re an obsessive label reader like me, then you might prefer to make your own sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk. Free from fillers, preservatives, and thickeners, the only “extra special” ingredient you need to make these at home is time. I know we’re all short on it these days. But, if you’re scouring through the pantry on Wednesday night, and could’ve sworn you bought these to make your Thanksgiving dessert, don’t fret. Set them up in a slow cooker before you go to bed, and you’ll be good to go.

I love making butter, and while it’s not feasible for large -scale baking needs, when you need some in a pinch, it’s super easy to make. Also, it’s an elegant upgrade of sorts for bread baskets on special occasions like Thanksgiving. This is also a fun science project to do elementary school children, and am making note to do this next time I substitute for for the kindergarten class at my daughters’ school. Hope your holiday preparations are going well, and the weekend was a great one!—xoxo

Here is another great kitchen hack. Make your own spreadable butter. Better for you (no nasty ingredients) and less expensive.

2 sticks of room temperature butter whipped in a stand mixer or with a hand held mixer.

Slowly drizzle in 1/3 cup of avocado oil or grapeseed oil (or your favorite oil) until blended.

    Store in refrigerator.
